CONGRATULATIONS to Badger State Speechy.
Badger State Speechy is our Vendor of the Month. We love our vendors and are so happy to be able to help support them in their product-making endeavors. It takes a lot of time, effort, creativity and sometimes money to create these amazing products for everyone to enjoy! This is one of the reasons why vendors greatly enjoy feedback. It makes a vendors day to hear what you think of their products!
Take some time to get to know this awesome SLP!
Where do you blog?
I blog at www.badgerstatespeechy.blogspot.com.
Why did you get into blogging?
I got into blogging because I love to write and blogging about Speech Pathology materials and therapy allows me to combine my passions for writing and Speech Therapy! Blogging and creating materials provides an opportunity to dive in and explore therapy techniques while “feeding” my creative side.
What setting do you currently work in?
I currently work in a public school setting servicing preschool through early elementary-aged children. I travel to multiple schools each day with my bag of tools and supplies in hand!! I do a large amount of group work so it’s important to me to have materials that are theme-related and address multiple speech and language goals.
What is your favorite thing about being an SLP?
My favorite thing about being an SLP with younger children is the huge gains this age group makes in their speech and language skills. What we do has a significant impact upon the lives of our students.
What is the product that you consider your “MOST WANTED”?
My most wanted product is my “Social Thinking” product. I love Michelle Garcia Winner’s Social Thinking (R) curriculum and I enjoy working on pragmatic skills with my students. This product provides activities and visuals that support her curriculum.
What is your favorite product to use for therapy?
My favorite product is my Fluency Packet for pre-K through grade 1. I created it because I was in need of fun activities to do with non-readers with fluency disorders and I put endless hours of work into it.
What words of advice would you give an SLP newbie?
Follow your passions and be a life-long learner.
What is your “go-to” treatment technique?
I really don’t have a “go-to” technique. Every child is an individual and needs an individualized approach!
If you weren’t an SLP what would you be?
If I wasn’t an SLP, I’d be a journalist. I started out in college in journalism but became hooked on Speech Pathology when I took a course on Aphasia at UW Eau Claire!
If you could travel anywhere in the world where would it be?
I have a travel bucket list that is a mile long! I grew up reading “National Geographic” and my husband and I try to raise our children to be “ambassadors” to the world. Barcelona is a spot I’ve always wanted to visit but haven’t made it there yet!
Wow! So excited to see how accomplished and well rounded this SLP is. Keep up the great work Badger State Speechy. If you want to see other products that she has created head on over to her vendor store here.
I wonder who next months Vendor of the Month will be. To become a VOM you must have
- at least 5 products uploaded to your Speechtivities vendor store
- be an active blogger and/or contributor to the SLP field and
- be a maker of creative, functional and useful Speech Therapy products.
