Product Description

A rapid naming game.

A speech and language activity targeting rapid generative naming. Students will see who
can name the most items in a given category before time runs out!
This Packet Includes:
• Category Cards:
• 40 Level 1 Blue cards (more basic, less modifiers)
• 72 Level 2 Green cards (more modifiers, higher curriculum-related vocabulary)
• 16 Blank cards (to make your own!)
• Score Sheet
Other Materials Needed:
• Timer
• Buzzers (optional)

Game Play Option 1: Taboo Style
• Divide students into two teams. Choose a team to go first.
• Have a student from the team act as the “speaker”. The speaker will read the category
cards to his/her teammates during their turn.
• Start the timer (~60 seconds) and have the speaker draw the first card from the deck.
The speaker reads the category aloud and the teammates must name 3 or 4 items
(depending on skill level) in the category. Once they name the proper amount, the
speaker draws another card.
• Continue until the time is up! The team gets one point for each category card they
could successfully name.
• If students are stuck on a category card, the speaker can choose to pass. BEWARE:
passing results in losing one point from that round’s score.
• Repeat the above steps with the other team. Game play continues back and forth until
all cards have been used or when time for the session is up.
• The team that scores the most points wins!

• Each student should receive a signaling device (or good old-fashioned hand raising will
work!).
• The SLP/teacher serves as the “speaker”. He/she will read the category cards for this game.
• Shuffle the category cards and place them facedown in the center of the table..
• Select the first card from the deck and read the category aloud.
• The first student to buzz in gets the chance to answer the question. They must name 3-4 items
in the category (depending on skill level) to collect the card.
• Repeat this until all cards are used or time is up.
• The student with the most cards wins!
Option 3: Individual Play
• The SLP/teacher serves as the speaker. He/she will read the category cards for this game.
• Shuffle the category cards and place them facedown in the center of the table.
• Start the timer (~60 seconds) and select the first card. Read the category aloud.
• If the student is able to name 3-4 items in the category (depending on skill level), he/she
keeps the card. If the student is stuck, he/she may pass. BEWARE: passing results in losing one
point from that round’s score.
• Select another card and repeat this process until the timer runs out.
• Repeat with next student. Continue gameplay until all cards are used or time is up.
• The student with the most cards wins!
